Eligibility for Advanced Clinical Training Programs

A license to practice veterinary medicine in Missouri is required to begin Residency and Internship programs. Candidates must have graduated from an AVMA accredited college of veterinary medicine or possess an ECFVG Certificate to qualify for licensure in Missouri. The matched candidate, if unlicensed in Missouri, must take and pass the Missouri State Board Examination which is given in April. Passing scores on the National Board Examination and the Clinical Competency Test within the past 3 years are required of individuals applying for Missouri license. If this requirement is not satisfied, the applicant must register to set the NBE and CCT in addition to the Missouri State Board Examination in April. For the unlicensed applicant who is matched, application forms and appropriate preparatory materials for sitting the Missouri State Board Examination will be mailed immediately after announcement and confirmation of the match.

Persons writing letters of reference should address the following areas regarding an applicant:

1. How long and in what capacity have they known individual?
2. Assessment of basic and clinical science knowledge.
3. Assessment of clinical rotation performance.
4. Strongest points.
5. Weakest points.
6. Work habits.
7. Any criticisms of ability or skills.
8. Interpersonal relationship with faculty, staff and students.
